During recent attempts to obtain parts for my car, I was reminded that it would be useful to have a proper parts database somewhere, which details interchangeable components from other models. When I owned an Alfa, a group of us built one of these and it proved to be invaluable, especially as parts became scarce. It was amazing how many items were used on other cars – and it was not just limited to the same make of car, either. The same would apply to the Vel Satis, as plenty of parts are also used on the Laguna II and Espace, for example.

What we need is someone with access to the Renault dealers' computer system and a bit of time…

It is a good idea.  I have not found many from 3.5 that crossover though.

I checked some parts from Murano and other cars with VDQ30 Engine.

However Nissan parts are a fortune for their big cars too.

My only real scoop was that bearing for the tensioner pulley that cost about 7 quid.

There may be a xover from Trafic ARB bushes to ours, no big saving though.

Astute buying of good aftermarket parts listed for VEL is a good saving.

At least parts needed will be available for a while yet as the car was produced till 2009?

This is what i know from memory…

All window switches are Laguna 2

Same with hazzard switch/C/L switches and steering column stalks

Front wing indicator are Megane 2

Rear wiper arm is Laguna 2 estate

Rear wiper blade is megane 2(i think)fronts appear unique to VS

Outer door handles are Laguna 2(V6 chrome)

Air filter Laguna 2(V4Y)

Steering wheel Laguna 2

I will look at more as i suspect the window regs, front fogs, wiper motors etc are used elsewhere.

Front and rear pads/discs are used on other Renaults,Laguna and Espace i think.

That's a pretty good start! I'd concur with those initial thoughts. Carminat Navigation was also on the Laguna 2, I believe and I'm sure there is a lot of crossover on smaller interior parts, things like sunvisors, minor switches, gauges, interior lighting etc. Were the same outer door handles also used on the Megane, as well as Laguna?

I guess the headlamps are unique to the VS, plus the seats and some body panels but much of the rest should be shared with something else. Exterior mirrors must have been used on another model, too, for example, as it would have been too expensive to make such items for a single, low volume car.

I'll compile what we have so far into a simple spreadsheet for now and will update and improve it, as we have more information.

Yep interior lights etc are used on other models but i believe from what i have looked at most of a VS is actually unique to the car,the mirrors are as is most of the trim and mouldings etc, they are all SLIGHTLY different.

I have taken the rear seats out of mine today.  There is nothing quite like them……massive and heavy with big bolt down

alloy saddle subframes.  I have a 2 seater VEL now. Laugh

David, can you check a part number for me? It is 8200303064 and should be a door handle. Can you confirm which model these are for?

Hi

Thats tricky as i can see its a silver outer handle but is it the chrome(Initiale)version you want?

They are the same part number as Laguna 2 outer handles, but the end caps are not sold seperate from the main handle…

I had to buy 3 brand new handles just for the end caps, and i bought a new n/s/f cap which is seperate.
