Well I have been looking at getting a Vel Satis for some time and it has finally happened! A lovely car, 2004 2.0T Expression. It would appear to have a few issues and was wondering if any of you guys had any thoughts. The heater/ climate display works but is not backlit at night. Does it have replacement bulbs or is a faulty unit. Do they suffer from poor earthing points as o/s/r brake/ indicator lights are interfering with each. The headlamp stalk changes from dip to main but struggles to go back to dip again. Also rear electric Windows do not work, have tried child switch on drivers door to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I want to try and get all of these niggles sorted out. I'm trying to get the rear DVD to work as I speak!!

Congratulations on getting the Vel Satis. I'm sure that along with the niggles you'll really enjoy it too ! I've had the first two of those issues which I think are common:

- the light behind the climate control display suffers from a dodgy connection to the resistor in the climate control unit. Elsewhere on this forum you'll find instructions on what needs doing – posted by BK61 on 18.6.2011.  But you may get the light to come on by pushing down on the display hard with a finger – try in different places !

- yes, it's poor earthing that connects the brake light with the indicator bulb – and as the cruise control is connected to the braking system, indicating then disconnects the cruise control – quite disconcerting when you start overtaking !  I got an auto-electrician to solder a new  earth wire to the rear lights to sort this – and he insisted on doing both sides to avoid coming back again when the other side started doing the same. It didn't take him long or cost much.

- sorry I can't help with the other issues, but good luck getting everything sorted !

Thank you for your help on these issues, I will look at the earth issue tomorrow. Also at the climate control backlit problems, I really want to get all the problems fixed, hopefully in time I will. The main problem I noticed today is no air bag light illuminates with ignition, have tried fuses but all good. Need to get that looked at as won't go through mot in April. On the plus side, drove five hours to home from Bristol in supreme comfort, what a lovely car!

The heater/ climate display works but is not backlit at night. Source a working replacement from Laguna or Vel Satis there are no user replaceable bulbs

Do they suffer from poor earthing points as o/s/r brake/ indicator lights are interfering with each. Common problem with Renaults as discussed improve earths

The headlamp stalk changes from dip to main but struggles to go back to dip again. Source a replacement as I suspect something is broken internally

Also rear electric Windows do not work, have tried child switch on drivers door to no avail. Common problem, probably one failed and then later the other. Can be down to water ingress but basically you need with a new controller, new motor or to replace the lift mechanism. You need to remove the door card to assess but if the window is stuck up it's likely to be controller or motor.
