Hi All,

Finally got a Vel Satis about 6 weeks ago having been seduced by them for a while.

It's a black Initiale (only spec / colour I wanted) 3.0 dci; and I'm loving it so far.

However, just recently on 2 occasions it hasn't started properly. Both occasions were after driving it for half an hour or so – then leaving it for 10 minutes. It would turn over (lights, radio working, etc.) – but just not firing up. Cold weather doesn't seem to be the issue.

Luckily both times this has happened, it would start again once I left it for 30 minutes or so. I took it to a "Renault specialist" but he said he couldn't diagnose it without the fault actually taking place (if anyone could recommend someone who knows what they are doing with Vels in the Newcastle area, that would be great).

Any ideas at all about what this issue is, would be greatly appreciated.

I love the car and would put up with things going wrong – as long as it still starts!

Many thanks

Congrats on your fine purchase and welcome to the forum!

Get the battery checked out as this has caused sporadic starting issues in a number of owners' cars.

Hello, the problem of 3,0dci is injection pump (not sure with the correct translation).

You shall buy something like this:

http://www.liqui-moly.cz/vyrob…..emu-motoru

it is a cleaner for diesel engine, i dont have a link fo UK pages. you shall put the this into a PET bottle, put the intput from pump inside, output too and start the engine only for this liqui moly – the problem is that on this pump are two "valves" which are used to die because of dirts inside of the diesel. When you will be finished, it is recomended to change the diesel filtre. The engine shall work much better (starts, not smoke, sound, etc.)

the engine can work for 45mins cca for two bottles of liqui molly

Thanks for the help, guys

In the end I took it to a Halfords Autocentre for a new battery and fuel injection cleaning service (possibly similar to what you mentioned, Jiri). I've actually found them better to deal with than my local "Renault Specialist" because they will give me a straight "standardised" price without a huge premium for the (supposedly) added complexity of working on a Vel Satis.

Cost about 90 quid all in and now everything is working perfectly
