Well having decided to garage the VS shortly,i,ve decided to spend a bit more on trying to get it as best as i can(funds permiting!!)not going mad,but this is the list i have come up with, its really an ultimate list as i,ve been over it several times and this is what i need or have found it needs.

Both 3.5 V6 badges

Tailgate diamond,front is new already.

Mats, now this is a bit of a grey area,i know all Priv/Initiale had these as standard but my car shows no sign of ever having them fitted, the fronts had a small fixing clip that screws into the floor, but my front footwells show no sign at all of this, maybe they didn,t have them?

A few odd nuts/bolts/screws i want to get but i have such a shop not far from me who deal in these so i will take them as a pattern to get new.

The engine bay looks great and iam happy with this and also the interior.

I need to also look at the boot area abit as the boot carpet and inner rear panel trim are not fantastic and need improving which i will look into

So what jobs/parts would you like to change to improve your VS,interesting reading Tonys list on another thread.

Since selling the 61 Land Rover I try to refrain from to do lists. That was never ending although built from ground up.

At some point in the past someone has had the jig on my engine sump. It has scraped it and caused it to rust. Last I heard the new one was £200.  Hard to get s/h one. It is such a silly little baffle plate too. I could take it off and cut that little section out. I would bolt it down to a heavy steel plate and Tig weld a new section in. Not ideal though.

I saw pattern ones cheap in USA for Murano with VDQ30 engine. Would you believe that they are different shape for our Vel?  They were only 30 dollars. I may end up biting the bullet from dealer.

I have the front carpet mats…….they could be hard to get now.

I have a busted clock and a cd player that don't work. Neither does sat nav.  I have no use for any of these items.

I would like to put new rear exhaust rubber mounts on.  It just seems that the weight of that whole exhaust hangs at those flexible ends.  Should should they break, £ouch.  I haven't heard of any breakages there yet mind?

I am going to drive for a bit now. I have put little miles since last October.

1. Replace front n/s wing due to damage, got a spare

2. Replace front & rear bumper inserts,  rear cracked (ooppss), and three of the corners do not engage with bodywork

3. Heated seat, replace fuse

4. Driver door stay creaking & flexing

5. Headlamps washer do not work

6. Rusty wheels nuts

7. Refurbish alloy wheels: though local shop said there was a slight run out in both front wheeks so not worth doing!

8. Window trim plastic/chrome both sides: purely cosmetic but owudl loiok god. Cost? Ease of removing, replacing?

9. Front reading lights not coming on, tho front central light does work.

10. Tyre pressure monitors, wheels have been swopped and one monitor does not work

11. Start button light

12. Climate contriol display light

13. Auto box jerky on start up in Drive.

Ordered new 3.5 badges today and the tailgate diamond and a few trim bits, some back ordered.

All garaged today after a nice clean up and polish, looked smashing then i squeezed it into the garage, snug fit,but its in there.

  • Andrew you have a list there to do,some it common issues but most of it easy enough to do when time/money permits.
  • Nothing to serious there though.

No nothing serious. Can you advise about the door stay? Can it be ordered and if so roughly how much? I suppose the inner door card/trim has to come off ?  What causes the creaking? It even flexes the body panel worryingly. Is it broken, corroded? Tried greasing it but no improvement. Cheers

Yes the door cards need to be removed its not a bad job believe me,ive done it several times, the check straps are really annoying when they crack but its nice when they are done!

I will get a part number tommorrow for you and a price.

Fitted new front wipers last night(the originals looked O.K but i get them at a good price)

Also fitted a new tailgate diamond badge, had to be very careful not to damage anything there on the tailgate handle, but all went well.

So waiting for the front door badges which will be nice.

Also have the centre console rear trim(the one with the heater control/C/L switch/lighter)on order, and the trim panel that runs under the rear seat around the rear seat trays, both have a scuff on them.

Will have another look at it when these bits arrive and have been fitted.

I do feel a spares car is high on my list of wants, but a suitable car thats not far from me hasn,t come up yet.

My theory so far is that it is the centre pin in the door jamb that has worn.

I have had the spring mechanism apart and can see do difference between the cracking one and a new unit.

It may be more complex but that is my hunch. I would like to try an oversize pin in door jamb to find out.

     What causes the creaking?
