Fuel Injection System Fault (3.0DCi)

Hello

Whilst I know my engine is in an Espace, I'm hoping somebody on here may be able to help (This forum seems to have members that car about their cars)

We have bought a 2003 Diesel V6 Isuzu powered Espace (same engine as the Vel-Satis and some other Renaults) and when we got it, it belched clouds of black sooty smoke. This was down to overfuelling due to a split intercooler hose. £80 for a new hose and some diesel additive and the issue has gone! Paid well under value because of this fault!

However we have a different fault – Fuel Injection System Fault

This appears on the display only when "booting" the car! When it happens, there is a red square symbol with a wavy line on the dash too. Can be cleared by turning off, closing and locking the car and then restart. Renault dealer can find no fault codes, old or new.

So what the hell could it be? Thought it may be lack of fuel (blocked filter) and so that has been replaced.

Hope someone can shed some light

Hello Gav.

perhaps low battery. then battery is low voltage, calculators are under powered and display error on dashboard.

IF you own a battery charger try to charge battery during 15 or 30min before first booting. If issues disappear you found the problem.

Thanks for the input.

The battery is brand new looks to be charging OK (Nice voltage coming in)

(When I got the car the battery died within a day, luckily I had a receipt given to me, with all the car paperwork, for the battery and it still had 5 months before the warranty ran out so I managed to get a brand new battery! Bonus)

I think it's the EGR valve. I noticed a puff of dirty smoke as I accelerate hard and then the dash warning comes on and power loss.

I'm ordering an EGR blanking plate (£4) to see if that improves any. I shall keep posting my findings)

Thanks, Gavin

Yes, cleanning the diesel circuit is a good idea!

I did that two years ago with WD40 directly into the diesel tank (almost empty for a large concentration).

I repeated twice (1/2 of spray can each time)

PS: Hi S3m8a, i already saw you on the french ForumConfused

Not a SPAM – it helps for 3,0dci ;) i put it into those threads where was the discussion about problems with starts or power of 3,0dci

you can ask Oliver – he knows me from FB :)

800dr – i know you too :) – the french forum has a big problem for me – that is the language – i have to use the tranlator in chrome and it is terrible translation :D and the second thing is, that you and Papyts are talking to me there, noone other – probably because of the language (i hope) :)

better than WD40 into a tank is to use some kind of diesel cleaner – like Liqui moly cleaner – its name is "Motor System Reiniger Diesel" – said on liquimoly.cz webpage – in case that the situation is too critical, you can put the input and output pipe form CR pump exactly inside to the bottle (not to put the cleaner into a tank) then you will see how 3,0dci can goes as it would be new ;)

in case that you woul like to know more, just ask :)

Hello

Thanks S3m8a for the information about the fuel pump.

I have been used Ametech Diesel treatments and Redex too. Different brands per tank of diesel. I am now using a Millers additive to clean up the fuel system. They seem to be working as I am getting lots less black clouds and power/response is up.

I have just been given some stuff called countdown too. Similar idea.

Hopefully these additives will clean the pump too and cure the problem. I shall wait and see now before stripping the EGR system any further.

Hello

I try many different "special diesel treatment", but only the WD40 suppress the black cloud behind my car!

WD40 in not cheap and not "Special diesel" but it do the job.

S3m8a: I didn't try your product, perhaps it is better than WD40,I don't know.

Sorry for frenchies, they don't speak fluent English!! I'm on this forum, because i like Velsatis and I  try to improve in same time my poor English level!

The V6 diesel?  Is it any good?  Between fuel injection problems and overheating, it does have a few issues.

Is it really worthwhile having that engine?  I ask as I might consider one in future….who knows.
