This is my own car.  Lots of upgrading and service work done over my 3yrs with her.

Rear suspension with springs and shocks renewed. New rear calipers, discs and pads. ARB bushes rear brake hoses. and rear shocks. I fitted a towbar and it has towed a small trailer twice. No real use on it and no heavy caravan loads.

At the front, I have just renewed the discs and pads, with a drop link and track rod…..all MOT advisory's done.

It has a new engine sump plate (slight rust on old one).  I have renewed the spark plugs with proper Iridium 4k miles ago (big job).  The gearbox is spot on and I have changed the sump content 4 times. You wont get a better Engine/box than this one.  The car has 86k with religious oil/filter changes in my tenure.

No lights on dash.  Tyre sensors work perfectly. All tyres are very good, Bridgestone fronts and Continental rears. No scuffs or dents on body work. On the whole, the body is almost mint, some light scuffing inside boot and door reveals.

Usual stuff that don't work:  CD, sat nav, clock.  It has a sticky front passenger window…….that was my next job list.

Very reliable and steady car. Tour anywhere at drop of a hat. No turbo worries, no DMF, no DPF, no egr problems, and 32mpg on a run.

It has the part wood wheel ,which was an extra.  Full years MOT.  Price is a firm  £1595. I am in Paisley.

 Hi Brad.

Guy has left deposit and comes to pick up tonight. So sold subject to the usual

First car for a long time I will be sorry to see go. Strange, because I don't usually bother at all. Maybe because it was so good and I had it serviced up to really top standard after best part of 4yrs.

Hope all is well with you big chap!Laugh

Well done. Thanks for letting me know.

I'm fine, thanks. I have now sold my complete 54 car collection (except one Vel Satis 3.5 which I use daily) and the house will be next to go although no takers despite a £100,000 price drop over the 9 months since it was first advertised for sale. Another £5000 is coming off this week and another £5000 next weekend when we are trying an 'open house' style of viewing. With garaging for around 30 cars and parking for around another 100, I thought it would go quickly. But this isn't 1988 is it, and we have had no real offers? Maybe an auction is the next step.

Good luck to you whatever comes along next, Lexi.

All the best,

Brad

I just bought your 3.5 V6 mentioned in this post. I think it's a beautiful car and am happy to see it's been so well cared for. However, I flew to Glasgow to buy the car and hoped to drive it the 300 + miles home… It didn't make it. The guy I bought it from said the car had no known faults but the car died on the M6 and the display said 'fuel injection fault'. There was also a strange clicking noise coming from the gearbox every minute or so.

The car has been take away by the RAC to be dropped off at a Renault dealer on Wednesday.

I have got everything crossed that it isn't anything big and that the car can be fixed without too much expense as I don't want to have wasted my money and I think the car is gorgeous. But I need reliability as I have got two small children and the M6 incident scared me!

Strangely the windscreen washers front and back aren't working either. How the seller didn't notice I will never know as I am forever washing my windscreen. The reservoir is full.

Any advice or suggestions of what the problem might be would be welcome as you know the car better than anyone. I want this car to be a keeper…

This is my second purchase of a Vel Satis in a month. I don't seem to be having much luck!

Are you saying you bought FL0 from the guy I sold it to?  He bought the car from me and sold it weeks later?

If so then I am surprised by the faults. It was perfect. Fuel injection fault?  Could be a sensor has died. Gearbox noise?      The box was perfect.  Unless that owner has done something silly. Coasting in neutral or abused the tiptronic?  I don't know.

What a pity really. Hope it is nothing serious.

Yes, I definitely own the car shown in the photos. The guy had only owned it six weeks and just said the car wasn't for him. I was a bit suspicious of this but I liked the look of it; almost showroom condition. He said there were no known faults and that it had been really well looked after by the previous owner (you).

Strangely, when I told him the car had broken down he said he had rung the guy who sold it to him who had suggested that it might be a problem with the MAF. But if you didn't know he'd sold it this can't be true…

Hopefully the independent Renault garage it's going to on Wednesday will be able to sort it quickly (as it's my only car). The clicking noise seems to be coming from the region of the auto gearstick and it occurs about once a minute. I've Googled it but nothing came up.

The RAC rescue guy checked the oil and said there was basically no oil in the car either!

Rest assured I will look after FL0 and as long as she can be fixed I won't be selling the car for a very long time. I would love to talk to you about the car one day if possible. Laugh

Well I am a bit surprised to hear all this.  No one contacted me at all of course.

No oil in car?  It was changed about  1k before that chap bought it and levels were just under max when bought. That car never used any oil between changes.  There is an oil ok light on it of course.

The noise you speak of is not an auto gearbox fault but comes from the air con control panel and is nothing to worry about.  I mentioned it on here as a "click".  It went away for a while. The auto panel and heating works fine of course.

You may have been just very unlucky that something has failed.  The only thing I have ever heard failing on these engines is the camshaft position sensor as experienced with a few members here. That is assuming that PO did not indeed have a MAF fault diagnosed? If so then he has been just as unlucky as you to buy a car and have a MAF fault develop within weeks of buying it. Possible I suppose.

Never mind, as I don't see it being much wrong and you have a great car.  Only fault that ever came up on car was 4 months ago and it was Temperature Coolant Sensor…….new one fitted and all good.

edit:  I am thinking RAC man may have misread dipstick. It can be done if you are not familiar with them. Voice activator and flashing service lights comes on if oil is low.
