Is it just me but isn't this car overpriced by around £5000?

Nice seats, though.

The very best of luck with it.

And don't forget what "diesel" means in Renaultspeak…before it dies, sell it.

Negative comments on cars you have no intention to buy is bad form old chap!

Far better with no comment at all really.

I wasn't being negative so have no idea what's got your goat. Plain fact is the diesels are untrustworthy. Not a flippant opinion but just the way they are. I have had several 3.0 diesels, one from new. All suffered engine failures at low mileages. And you don't need to look far on this forum or in both the UK or French car ads to find dozens which are so afflicted.

This car with the nice red seats is incredibly overpriced. I am surprised no one else has commented on this point. I bought my 62000 mile 3.0 diesel Initiale (for parts) at auction for £360 in September – immaculate, black leather, full history but a short MoT. Quite a bit cheaper than £5995!

I also think we experienced Vel Satis owners are obligated to air our experiences of these cars. After all, they are far from the bees knees in so many respects and prospective owners searching on here need to know that.

You can hardly blame Lexi for a frank observation. You do consistently knock the diesels, but I also understand this is your experience so we should not be too harsh on your doom and gloom.

Not sure it is over priced as much as you estimate. Allowing £750 for the plate, it's a much more reasonable £4000 surely!

To my mind and budget I would offer £2500, only because it is at reasonable(but not low) mileage and I love the interior. I would offer slightly more if it was to the full spec.

Did Ron not pay closer to 8k with 15500 miles on the clock three years ago? Probably worth it then to the "right" buyer. Difficult

This is my first post for over 2 years!

Please forgive me, but I feel I must support Very Tall Brad and all his comments regarding Vel Satis diesels. I know that the trade opinion of the diesel versions of our chosen cars is very far from good. I can readily confirm from personal experience that the Vel Satis is at its very best (and most reliable) in 3.5 V6 form. The Nissan 3.5 engine has power to spare, is never over-stressed and is a delight – as well as possessing near bullit-proof qualities. Just try one – it will bring an ear to ear grin!

I currently have 2 identical Initiale versions and have been a Vel Satis enthusiast for 4 years. Although now 72 years old, I still do all my own maintenance (which probably keeps them reliable! – and saves much money and time). I have always respected VTB`s knowledge and views expressed on another forum (Rover 800).

Just in case in case anybody suspects that I have a down on diesels – not so, since I also possess a Rover 75 Connoisseur SE – an extremely fine car in all respects.

Regards to all,

Paul

Deary me.  This is a for sale thread. Not a Which magazine article on the engines in Vel Sat.

So every time a diesel Vel comes up for sale we have to state the bleeding obvious on diesel engines in them?

Then we have the usual story of "I got a Vel up the market for £370"  from Brad.  Dealers buy different cars all day at those prices and mark them at 5 times on Eblag……..and sell them. This is not the car market where Vels are unknown and unloved. This is a forum for enthusiasts of Vel Satis…….petrols and diesels.

The tech on the cars, good and bad is documented in the forum history and files, there is a mountain of it.
