Crash, bang, wallop! – didnt quite make it to work today. LG02 got us around France without problem, but today the gearbox has lost drive. Vibration at 40mph like driving over badly surfaced road, stopped vibrating at 45-50mph. 3 miles later imagine the amplified sound of fingernails on a blackboard accompanied by mechanical carnage from within.

Now at Rawlinsons Renault for diagnostics, hopefully covered by the warranty. (there is a nice 3.5 in north london for sale, 64K, sunroof etc….) have already floated the idea to the "financial controller".

I should have the grim news next week…………….Frown

Oh no thats doesn,t sound good, sorry to hear about the gearbox issue.

What warranty are you hoping its covered by?

Such a shame as it looks a very nice car, whats the 3.5 like……

Hope it gets all sorted.

I bought a warranty with the car. Fingers crossed the failure is mechanical not wear and tear.
The 3.5 is Privilege spec, looks well cared for and is up on Autotrader, but I have not checked to see if it is still available.
If its not good news on the gearbox, another Vel will be bought ASAP and I will probably break the 3.0.

Hi Lexi

mileage to date 124,000. The hydraulic block was replaced circa 115,000.

Are people finding similar probelms at about this mileage. Is the problem specific to the 3.0 ? what is your experience with the 3.5 ?

That 3.5 on Autotrader looks nice.

Strange choice when new not to have any wood inserts.

Does look nice and clean, and with a sunroof.

I,ve read a few issues with the boxes in a 3.0 going bang, but all the 3.5 seems to suffer with is the shunt, not heard of any totally failures, but having said that i,am pretty sure its the same box, will look at work to see.

Vendor reckons everything works, including the aircon! Will be taking a look next week if the prognosis on the 3.0 is terminal.

As you say, it looks good, 4 matching Pirelli's with plenty of tread left, but 5 owners though. Last serviced at 62k (12 months ago)

If I go for it, I will most likely transfer the wood trim, blinds and wood steering wheel from the 3.0 Initiale.

Sounds like a plan

5 owners isn,t to bad but be careful that the seller is telling the truth,i can see at work if i can find any info on it if you want.

Would you break the 3.0 if its not savable?

I would really appreciate any info you can find. Presumably you can pull up the service records if it has been maintained through the dealer network.

I will break the 3.0, though at the moment I have no where to store it off road. If it comes to this I will do as you are with the 3.5 and keep a few parts for myself.

Have you removed the windscreen from your 3.5? if not let me know how you get on.
