I guess you're referring to the Initiale that was just sold, on the Isle of Wight. I had spoken to the vendor, and was to go buy it, but had an urgent hospital appointment that day. Two days later it had sold. Drat!

The only one with rear dvd I'd ever heard about.

Keep smiling,    Paul.

Well, now the whereabouts are known…. I have it! Thrilled to find it and buy it too. It'll be a great car when I get to do the inevitable little jobs.  Keep Smilin',      Paul.

That did look a really fine specimen – but I noticed on the eBay advert when i saw it that there was a service light showing, so I hope there are not too many expensive jobs to do!

I finally bit the bullet today and bought a new battery for my Vel, a Duracell DA80 which I hope will hold charge better than the previous Bosch one I fitted 7 years ago. It has gradually got worse and worse dropping as much as 0.5 V overnight – I just hope it is a duff battery and not an electrical fault draining it. Thankfully the radio code worked once I reconnected, and I reset all the windows and was surprised that the front passenger one has now started to work normally again after about 2 years of intermittently acting as if it needed resetting by going up and down in short bursts.

Good luck with selling the other one – I see there is also a nice red 3.5 Vel on Autotrader at the moment.

Hi Steve,

Yep, the dreaded SERVICE light. Seems the only thing not working is the drivers seat, so my trip to collect it from Sheffield was carried out feeling like a half-folded pocketknife!

The most odd paint colour, Nordic Green- green in some light, blue in other, and maybe even black! Hope I never need paintwork….  The interior is superb, with barely a mark.

So, let's see how it works out. It IS a Vel Satis after all….

  Keep Smiling,    Paul.

Thankfully my Vel Satis was delivered to me, so my first drive was a local short one. Even shorter after it started beeping, and I didn't know why – it was the seat belt warning from a belt not fully pushed home!

Have fun…

Hi Steve,

Re the batteries. I get about three years from mine. Fortunately I'm covered by the AA warranty scheme and only costs me £35 excess. The signs I get are just as you  say the window (pass side) requires resetting also my passenger side mirror ceases to work. This happens when the battery is on its last legs and when I use the car in frequently. When the car is used on a daily basis the faults do not occur. Previously when I was using the car continous daily basis I was getting four to five years from a battery. FYO I recently purchased a wooden steering wheel.Very nice feel to it.

Hope things are well with you,

Brian  Smile

Thanks Brian – that makes me feel much better! 7 years for a battery might not be so bad after all…..

Very envious of your wooden steering wheel – I had one on an Alfetta GTV I owned many years ago, and always thought it is what a proper steering wheel should be made of!

All the best

Steve
